With over 27 years of investment experience, Mr. Ast is the senior member of our investment team. He manages over a half billion dollars in institutional and trust assets for our clients. He manages portfolios that run the full gamut of objectives, from fixed income to equity. Previously, Mr. Ast served as our analyst on the Healthcare, Industrial, and Discretionary Retail sectors. Mr. Ast began to develop his broad investment background at RNC Capital Management, where he spent six years as an equity research analyst. From there, he went to the Auto Club of Southern California, where he managed $600 million in pension, corporate and insurance portfolios. At First Interstate Capital Management, he managed about $200 million in institutional portfolios as Vice President & Senior Portfolio Manager. Mr. Ast joined First American in 1996 as a Senior Portfolio Manager. He is a CFA charterholder since 1988 and a member of the CFA Society of Orange County and the CFA Institute.
